Bradley University and Illinois Central College (ICC) have officially launched the "Path2BU" transfer partnership, creating a streamlined pathway for ICC associate degree graduates to continue their education at Bradley. This collaboration aims to enhance the Greater Peoria workforce by retaining local talent and providing students with a clear, efficient route to a bachelor’s degree.

Key Takeaways

  • A new "Path2BU" agreement facilitates seamless credit transfer from ICC to Bradley University.
  • A $1 million grant from the Gilmore Foundation will fund "last-dollar" scholarships for eligible Path2BU students.
  • The partnership is designed to boost the Greater Peoria workforce and retain local talent.
  • Both institutions aim to address anticipated higher education enrollment challenges proactively.

Seamless Transfer Pathway

The "Path2BU" agreement, formalized at a signing ceremony at ICC’s Peoria campus, establishes a clear process for ICC graduates to transfer to Bradley with junior standing. This involves a streamlined credit evaluation, ensuring students do not have to repeat coursework. Bradley President James Shadid emphasized the natural synergy between the institutions, stating, "We’re in their backyard; they’re in our backyard. We both serve this community. So it just made it made sense to do this."

Boosting the Local Workforce

Both Bradley and ICC leaders believe the partnership will significantly benefit the Greater Peoria community. ICC interim president Bruce Budde highlighted the importance of retaining talent, "These students that come to ICC and then go to Bradley will stay in our community, so we’re keeping that talent within our community. It really helps feed the economic vibrancy of the community overall, and the whole region."

The program also outlines scholarship eligibility for students who maintain a 2.7 cumulative GPA, further incentivizing completion and transfer. This initiative is seen as a proactive measure to address potential enrollment declines in higher education.

Generous Scholarship Support

A significant component of the partnership is a $1 million grant from the Gilmore Foundation. This funding will provide "last-dollar" scholarships for qualifying Path2BU students, covering remaining tuition and fees after other financial aid is applied. Laura Cullinan, president of the Gilmore Foundation, stated, "Together, ICC and Bradley are strengthening the local talent pipeline and ensuring employers in our region have access to well-prepared graduates."
